I’ve been strongly considering getting involved in a career field involving conservation, trees, nature. I would love to care for trees. This may sound pretty naive, but I have a major fear of heights. I’ve done some research and it seems that in order to be an arborist it’s very necessary to climb trees. I love studying trees, caring for the environment, and being in nature. Is there a field of tree study that doesn’t involve the maintenance of trees and where I can still be in the field? I’m currently at the tender age where I need to decide what to do with my life and eventually I narrowed it down to three careers I would like to pursue and within those there are even more things to look at. It’s either going to be…

And within each of those is whole set of other questions to consider (if I’m going to be a writer what books would I want to write? If I’m a Game Designer should I be a Programmer or Level Designer?). And now I’m all confused and sick to my stomach…

All of my friends have met with a career adviser from their schools but because I was home schooled I lacked that event in my life. So where would I go to get advice? I’m tired of everyone I know saying, "Oh, why don’t you do all three?"

Of those three, you can get started the quickest in business. If you enjoy people and like to listen, a career in sales can earn you a significant income. For example, if you like investing, you can become a stock broker… some easily earn six figures once they are established in the business. Of course, you can always take the entrepreneur path… decide what you love and build a business around it. I was recently in Napa Valley and the balloonists there earn quite a bit to take tourists on a hot air balloon ride… again, they love to balloon, and built a business on their passion. Am I going to pay more fee’s if I opt into a mutual Fund advisor program?

I’m investing and my broker company wants to charge 1.35% per year plus the internal fund fees on about 1%-but with no fees to get in and no fees to get out, vs. the traditional way of buying A shares. Is it better for me to just buy A shares or will I be out of more money if I get in this Mutual fund Ad visor program?

No you are better off buying A shares of Mutual Funds in a reputable Mutual Fund Company.

The 1.35% he is charging you per year is a management fee, why would you pay for him to "manage" your account when Mutual Fund companies pay the Mutual Fund Manager to pick all the stocks and Manage the money in the Mutual Fund. AND as a percentage a Mutual Fund manage won’t see 1.35% not even close and he is reponsible for the money in the Fund!! These types of accounts are very popular with brokers because they can put you into these accounts, make money and not really have to do that much work.

The other gripe that I have is that you will be paying over 2% in fee’s on your account, over time this will drag down your investment returns. You can find low cost funds (as in Fee’s and Sales Charges) from Fidelity, Vanguard, American Fund and T Rowe Price.

So, my advise to you would be to shop around and talk to some different brokers/financial advisers.

I am trying to access a SOAR account which is a online program for students to view things such as grades, and register/drop programs. When I try to access the page I get the message saying System Error Detected. It then tells me to contact my system administrator. How can I contact the system administrator, or is there anyway arround this?

First thing to try is turn off any Pop-Up blockers running in your web browser or browser add-on toolbars.
Next step is to check their website for a self-help link. You are probably not the first person to ever have a problem accessing their resources. Look for something like "Frequently Asked Questions", "FAQ" or "Knowledgebase".
Finally, contact the organization hosting the SOAR account and tell them your problem.
